I have been reading about Bondera Tile Mat Set from builder’s magazines, etc.. According to the ad: “Master tile setter or not, there’s a cleaner, easier way to set tile. No need for remolition. Tile over existing tile, formica and other substrates. You can even set glass and mosaic tile without the mess. Bondera offers the 3 in 1 benefit of crack isolation, water resistance, and tile adhesive – all in one product”.

All these sound really appealing. So finally, I got a couple rolls and started my experiments. It is true that it is cleaner and less messy (in a way). But the trade-off was double the work time… Every time I cut the “mat”, I would need to get rid of the sticky thing from the blade before I could cut more (I did spray the blades with oil beforehand). And for some reason, it was not as sticky as it was supposed to be… maybe because I did not clean the area well enough? Moreover, the sheets’ grids were very difficult to keep smooth and even.

In a nutshell, personally I don’t recommend this product, especially considering the expense and the outcome. It is not worth it, at least according to my personal experience…
